Kia ora! Nau mai, haere mai ki a Koi. Welcome to Koi, the Tertiary Education Commission’s (TEC) cultural intelligence (CQ) app. We have created Koi to help you learn more about New Zealand’s cultures and languages; anytime, anywhere. Koi means to be sharp, intelligent, and on-to-it. Koi helps you to be on-to-it by growing your CQ and ability to work effectively in culturally diverse contexts. The app gives practical insight and information focused on te reo Māori, Te Ao Māori, and New Zealand Sign Language. While CQ is a broad concept applied to all cultures, we have concentrated this app on two of the three official languages of New Zealand. Growing your CQ in any culture supports growing your overall CQ. We are also looking at ways to support staff CQ for other cultures and languages commonly spoken in New Zealand and the South Pacific. Our purpose at TEC is to make a positive difference to the prosperity and wellbeing of all New Zealanders. We know that by growing our CQ, everyone gains. This is about being curious and learning. Kia Kaha! Kia koi! Tēnā koe! Nau mai, haere mai! Welcome to DIA's Māori cultural app Tai Ako. Ako means "to learn" or "to teach" which represents the reciprocal nature of these concepts. Tai means “tides” and reflects the tides of learning that we all go through, each of us starting at different levels. We’ve created this app to be an effective resource and rallying point to support you in learning more about important aspects of Māori culture under the mantle of Te Tari Taiwhenua - The Department of Internal Affairs. At Te Tari Taiwhenua, our purpose is to serve and connect people, communities and government to build a safe, prosperous, respected nation. Through doing so, it’s our aim to help make Aotearoa New Zealand better for New Zealanders. We’ve included information on te reo Māori, tikanga and waiata, to help you understand more about our unique and shared cultural heritage. However, please note that some protocols differ from place to place. This app aims to increase your knowledge and confidence within a Māori context. It is a tool to give you insight into the Māori world and use in your everyday mahi.
