Where is a realtime location sharing app designed for privacy. Unlike other location apps, Where uses end-to-end encryption (E2EE) to ensure that only you and your friends can see where you are. Most location apps send your GPS coordinates directly to a central server. This means the company running the app knows exactly where you are, where you’ve been, and who you’re with. Where is different. • Direct Sharing: You add friends by scanning a QR code or sharing a private link. This establishes a “handshake” directly between your devices. • Encryption First: Before your location ever leaves your phone, it is scrambled into a mathematical code that only your friend’s phone can unscramble. • The “Blind” Server: Our server acts like a digital post office that can’t read the mail. It sees that someone sent a package to someone else, but it doesn’t know who they are or what’s inside. • No Identity Required: There are no accounts, no email addresses, and no phone numbers. Your “identity” is just a random key stored on your device. Where uses a double ratchet inspired by the Signal Protocol to ensure forward secrecy, and header encryption to mask your social relationships (whom you share with) from the server or anyone snooping on your traffic. Where is open source: https://where.af0.net.
