SARLOC was originally developed in 2009 by Russ Hore as a web application that allowed Search & Rescue (SAR) teams to locate you if you were unsure of your position. If you had a data signal, the SAR team could send you a message that allowed SARLOC to obtain your location and add it to the SAR teams mapping systems. Although it has been hugely successful, it does require a data signal to show you a location before it can be passed to the SAR teams. The SARLOC App will show you a location even if you do not have a data signal. If you are in voice communication with the SAR team you can tell them your location. If they provide you with a SARKey to enter into the App, you can share your location with them directly to their mapping systems. SARLOC is not a substitute for knowing how to navigate the outside world and it is essential that you learn proper navigation techniques before venturing into the wild. SARLOC requires you to be in contact with a SAR team before you can share your location with them. Starting SARLOC will not automatically notify anybody you require assistance.

Offline Ordnance Survey mapping for iPhone and iPad OMN4 combines outdoor mapping software with detailed Great Britain maps for walking, hiking, running, cycling, and other outdoor journeys. Plan and edit routes, download licensed Ordnance Survey maps before you set off, see your live position, and record GPS tracklogs on your iPhone or iPad. One subscription across your devices Use OMN4 on iPhone, iPad, Windows, and Mac with one account and subscription. Plan and print in dedicated Windows and Mac desktop apps, built for big-screen planning. Anquet Cloud syncs routes and recorded tracks across your signed-in OMN4 apps, so your route is ready on iPhone or iPad and your tracklog is ready to review on a larger screen afterwards. High-definition Great Britain mapping Use licensed high-definition Ordnance Survey mapping at 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 with an OMN4 GB subscription. We update this mapping every three months, so you get the latest Ordnance Survey data as it is released. Stream maps while connected, then download the areas you need to your iPhone or iPad and keep using them with no signal and no mobile data. Know your maps are ready See what is downloaded and up to date, and how much storage it uses. Update or remove downloads, and check the stored files with Verify Map Data before a trip. Routes, tracks, waypoints, and GPX Create and edit routes, and organise routes, recorded tracks, and waypoints in folders. Style routes and tracks with your own colours, line styles, and widths, and choose icons for waypoints. Import GPX files from other apps and devices. Your data stays portable: export GPX even without an active subscription. Navigate and record outdoors See your position on Ordnance Survey mapping, follow the route you planned, and record a tracklog of where you went. Review route and track statistics including distance, ascent, descent, time, and speed. Search that works offline Find place names, roads, and postcodes using downloaded place data, with no internet connection required. You can also go directly to British National Grid references, latitude/longitude, or UTM coordinates, even when place data is not installed. Print real paper backups On Windows and Mac, OMN4 prints paper backups showing your route on Ordnance Survey mapping, with your chosen scale, grid, layout, and multi-page coverage. Plan on screen and carry paper. Keep your outdoor data together Anquet Cloud keeps your routes, tracks, waypoints, settings, and activity types together across signed-in OMN4 apps. It also syncs waypoint icons you import on Windows or Mac. Your OMN4 account unlocks subscribed mapping on supported devices, while offline map files are downloaded and managed separately on each device. Digital mapping experience since 2001 Anquet has built digital mapping apps for Britain's outdoors since 2001. OMN4 carries that experience forward under the Outdoor Map Navigator name. If you use OMN2 or OMN3, you can bring your routes, tracklogs, and waypoints into OMN4 when you are ready. Background location OMN4 collects location data to record a tracklog while the app is in the background, and to show your live position while it is open. Background recording begins only when you start a tracklog. Subscription and device notes Ordnance Survey map access, offline downloads, and printing require a subscription. Eligible new subscribers start with a 7-day free trial. Subscriptions renew annually until you cancel; cancel any time in your App Store account settings. GPS and background recording depend on device permissions and battery settings. Storage and download performance vary by device and connection.
