Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Notebook at 93% against CatCarp Paper's 56%. Notebook also leads on iOS requirement (14.0 vs 17.6). CatCarp Paper's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and rating (4.9 vs 4.6). On price, ratings volume, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. CatCarp Paper sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and Notebook sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
CatCarp Paper holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.6. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 227 and 185 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 56% of CatCarp Paper's written reviews are positive against 93% of Notebook's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
CatCarp Paper ships an update every 3 weeks, Notebook every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
