Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: BarterUnit at none against Pagan Almanac's 16. BarterUnit also leads on review sentiment (85% vs 71%) and iOS requirement (15.1 vs 17.0). Pagan Almanac's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 4.4) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Pagan Almanac sells 16 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per month. BarterUnit asks for nothing beyond the download.
Pagan Almanac holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Pagan Almanac has 174 ratings behind it against 19, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 85% of BarterUnit's written reviews are positive against 71% of Pagan Almanac's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
BarterUnit ships an update every 2 months, Pagan Almanac every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
