A free app (which is the third one of a set), providing an easy-to-use self-assessment quiz of the inheritance mechanism or inheritance mode of 15 Mendelian (or "single-gene") disorders that may be learned at college or university. After taking the quiz, a score is awarded & the correct answers are listed for each question that was answered incorrectly. Please note that due to the overlap between X-linked recessive and dominant modes of inheritance, these conditions are classed together in the app as "X-linked", as in many current reference sources. The app was created by both Edward and Adam Tobias. It was produced to help students and to accompany Prof Tobias's Medical Genetics textbooks (including "Essential Medical Genetics" and "Medical Genetics for the MRCOG and Beyond") and his educational websites (www.EuroGEMS.org). Prof Tobias is a researcher, lecturer and clinical geneticist. He is honoured to be an invited member of the Education Committee of the European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG) and of the European Board of Medical Genetics. CodonQ

Evolution begins with the codon table. As Dr. Motoo Kimura, renowned for the neutral theory of molecular evolution, emphasized, memorizing the codon table is the essential first step in evolutionary biology, much like learning multiplication tables is foundational to mathematics. CodonQ is designed for students, researchers, and curious minds who seek to internalize the genetic code through engaging, self-guided quiz experiences. Whether you're just beginning or aiming to sharpen your recall speed, CodonQ offers an intuitive and flexible learning platform grounded in repetition and meaningful classification. CodonQ features two core quiz styles: Relaxed Quizzes, which group codons by amino acid chemical categories such as negatively charged, positively charged, polar, hydrophobic, and special, and Time-Constrained Quizzes, which challenge users to recall amino acid matches under time pressure. Users can also set a Custom Quiz Length to match their learning goals and study routine. Beyond quizzes, CodonQ supports the exploration of nonstandard codons and enables advanced peptide property analysis, making it valuable for both foundational learning and deeper sequence-function exploration. Users can tap any codon to instantly reveal its corresponding amino acid, along with key biochemical properties including polarity, charge, and hydrophobicity. Additionally, users can input short peptide sequences using the codon table, and the app calculates physicochemical properties of the resulting peptide helping bridge sequence with function. Whether in classrooms, research labs, or during personal study, CodonQ supports your evolutionary learning journey, one codon at a time.
