CPWR-The Center for Construction Research and Training’s Best Built Plans: Build Safety Into Every Job program provides contractors and workers with practical tools and information to plan for safe materials handling while staying productive and profitable. The Contractor Planning Tool includes resources to help a contractor plan for safely storing, lifting and moving materials, as well as materials to help implement the plan at each project stage. The interactive Training & Coaching sections and the Lift Coach game series are intended to be used with and by workers to reinforce safe practices. The program features: -Downloadable spreadsheets, checklists, training resources and useful links to put into use where you work. Please note: If you do not have a pre-installed app on your device that lets you view Microsoft documents and spreadsheets, you may need to download the Microsoft Word and Excel apps. -A highly interactive training section that gives the user a chance to practice what they are learning. -Attractive 3D graphics and animations The Site Planning portion of the tool includes questions to consider and resources to help plan for safe materials handling throughout a project’s lifecycle – from preparing the bid through completing the project. It includes information on the benefits of engaging in safe practices, Excel spreadsheets, checklists, and on-site training materials to use during a construction project. The Interactive Training and Coaching sections can be used in a classroom setting or on their own to introduce the importance of planning to minimize manual materials handling, safe lifting practices, and the effects of poor lifting practices. The two Lift Coach games reinforce these practices and take the player through an interactive walkthrough of a worksite and the components that lead to safer manual materials handling. The Manual Materials Handling Contractor Planning Tool and the Lift Coach game series were developed by CPWR-The Center for Construction Research and Training in partnership with Simcoach, the developer. CPWR is a nonprofit that serves as the research and training arm of NABTU and as the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health’s National Construction Center. In this capacity, CPWR works to reduce or eliminate occupational safety and health hazards faced by construction workers through research and the development of a broad array of training programs and other resources. Watch history. Hi, I'm Steve and man do I hate boring safety meetings and drawn-out safety videos! Imagine spending time daily or weekly with the multiple people on your crew talking about safety and health, only to have your team disdain the 5-30 minutes you spend together because it's so painful. OSHAFLIX can help! Although safety videos have improved somewhat in their ability to grab attention and not be so long, they sometimes still (1.) possess a boring factor because they are nameless, faceless, and often narrated by a drone-like voice. Furthermore (2.) many people have never been given any tips on how to deliver an effective training, nor shown how to take advantage of the videos they use in their toolbox safety talk. OSHAFLIX can really help! I created this app to remedy these travesties. (1.) OSHAFLIX contains all manner of short, engaging safety videos in English and Spanish, many of which are led by me personally. They will challenge your team to identify ways they can improve and help persuade them to put safety into practice at work, at home, and on the road. (2.) I also include tips and entire videos dedicated to teaching you ways to squeeze all the learning out of each video; coaching you how to make your safety talks fun, engaging, and promote participation. I've been a full-time safety professional since 2007. Prior to that and through college I worked in residential construction jobs before getting schooled in safety and health working as field engineer in the energy sector for about 5 years in Mexico, New Mexico and New England. (I lived in Central and Northern Mexico for a total of 2 years: 1999 and 2002.) Since leaving my engineering job and starting my safety training company, I've enjoyed the amazing opportunity to meet and train hard-working folks in over 30 states and also back in Mexico. Thanks for considering OSHAFLIX; I hope you choose to make these videos a regular ingredient in your safety training in English and Spanish. It would be an honor to contribute to your safety culture through OSHAFLIX or by training at your company personally.
