Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is monetization model: SkyTimer at freemium against AltitudeAlert's subscription. SkyTimer also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months) and device support (4 vs 2). AltitudeAlert's advantage is rating (4.3 vs 4.0). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

AltitudeAlert holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 26 and 22 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of AltitudeAlert's written reviews are positive against 54% of SkyTimer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

AltitudeAlert ships an update every 2 months, SkyTimer fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on September 22, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
