Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Potion Permit at 4.5 against Swag and Sorcery's 3.4. Potion Permit also leads on chart position (#65 vs unranked) and ratings volume (553 vs 64). Swag and Sorcery's advantage is monetization model (free vs paid) and update cadence (weekly vs every 3 weeks). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Potion Permit holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Potion Permit has 553 ratings behind it against 64, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 47% of Swag and Sorcery's written reviews are positive against 40% of Potion Permit's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Swag and Sorcery ships an update weekly, Potion Permit every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on November 3, 2026.
