Science Division has developed translation software, available for download to your PADD (Personal Access Display Device), which will allow you to communicate with your Star Trek™ Interactive Tribble, available at ScienceDiv.com! With the Section K-7 app, you can join the covert operation tasked with locating disguised Klingon agents with anti-Federation sympathies. Pair with and name your Tribble, choose your ship, and assign your Tribble to different modes to carry out your mission: At Ease: Your Tribble is not searching for Klingons. It will trill to acknowledge you when you interact with it. When left alone, your Tribble will continue to trill, but will do so less frequently to avoid irritating its human companion. On Duty: Your Tribble will begin actively seeking Klingon agents. Pass it around to determine who is an ally, and who is an enemy among us. Watchdog: Starfleet is entrusting you with sensitive Federation intelligence, which must be secured at all times. If you must leave data unattended, set your Tribble on top of the object that you wish to protect. If a Klingon agent attempts to retrieve that object, your Tribble will alert you! Oh, and we’re not supposed to tell you this, but the practical jokers at Science Division programmed an auxiliary translation function into the software on your PADD. It triggers your Tribble to scream at anyone in close proximity. So, technically, you can set it off on your friends. Do not abuse this. Good luck, recruit! Generate unique, emotional R2-D2 vocalizations with the press of a button! The R2-D2 Vocalizer is a fully functional AI. The software is powered by advanced research into the speech patterns and emotional logic of R2-D2. Press an emotional stimulus button and R2 will respond. His emotions will shift based on R2’s actual personality. He will then vocalize his new emotions. Each vocalization is unique. A sophisticated algorithm assembles R2’s speech "syllable" by "syllable." Billions upon billions of rules dictate how each sound should be selected, processed, timed, and sequenced to achieve emotional and canonical accuracy. For more control, use the Script panel to create a vocalization manually. The software's grammatical AI provides canonically-appropriate recommendations to guide you towards a coherent vocalization. Then store your custom vocalization to memory where it can be recalled either verbatim or with organic, AI-powered variation. This software is entirely free and contains no advertisements or in-app purchases. For more information on the Human-Cyborg Relations project, please visit humancyborgrelations.com

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: R2 at 4.6 against Section K's 3.8. R2 also leads on update cadence (every 11 days vs every 16 months). Section K's advantage is review sentiment (60% vs 25%) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 11.0). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
R2 holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.8. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 10 and 10 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of Section K's written reviews are positive against 25% of R2's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Section K ships an update every 16 months, R2 every 11 days. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and September 29, 2026 respectively.
