Această activitate are rolul de a depista eventualele abateri/încălcări ale reglementărilor legale, iar, în cazul în care există probe concludente în acest sens, de a sancționa întreprinderile răspunzătoare. Cea de-a doua direcție de acțiune a autorității de concurență are ca obiectiv stimularea concurenței pe piețele comercializării cu amănuntul a produselor alimentare și a carburanților, precum și îmbunătățirea climatului concurențial, în vederea obținerii de avantaje pentru consumatorii finali. Concurența prin preț este o caracteristică importantă a economiei de piață, având rolul de a genera atât eficiență economică, cat și beneficii importante la nivelul consumatorilor, printre care se numără o ofertă variată de produse de calitate la prețuri competitive. Autoritatea de concurență nu are competența de a interveni în formarea unor prețuri de vânzare ale întreprinderilor active pe o piață anume sau de a reglementa un nivel al acestor prețuri. Cu toate acestea, Consiliul Concurenței militează constant pentru bunăstarea consumatorului final, prin remedierea eventualelor disfuncționalități dintr-un anumit sector. Monitorul prețurilor ține cont de faptul că prețul nu este singurul criteriu de apreciere a unui produs, fiind completat de elemente cum ar fi: tipul și calitatea serviciilor disponibile, calitatea si cantitatea de informații auxiliare disponibile consumatorului, calitatea in sine a produsului, , asistenta post-vânzare si, nu in ultimul rând, decizia consumatorului cu privire la proveniența, brand-ul sau prezentarea produsului. În acest scop, informațiile vor fi prezentate de o manieră care să permită evaluarea acestor elemente adiționale, fără a transforma, însă, platforma într-un canal de publicitate.

The InfoCons app is a tool dedicated to consumer protection. Regardless of location or spoken language, one can query the InfoCons database by scanning the barcode from any food product, the QR code from any electrical appliance (fridges, freezers, storage units, washing machines, dishwashers, washer-dryers, televisions, monitors and other displays, air conditioners, cooker hoods and many others; sold in the EU after 2019) or by using the search field directly. A successful food product identification brings you the following options and details: (1) General information - Name of product, product manufacturer, product ingredients and product image. (2) Additives details – Provides the names of additives, quantity of additives and, for logged in users, the definition of additives. (3) Highlighted allergen list. (4) The calculator - Provides estimates of the number of calories you eat based on quantity of food. The calculator also provides information about the amount of time you should walk, run or pedal to burn calories consumed. (5) Warnings emitted by the European Union as well as other countries for that product type. (6) Markers based on your preferences - The app highlights values that are not in accordance with your choices, which you are able to set through the “My Choice” section (for logged in users). (7) Save product in a lightbox, called “Saved products”, this is where you can analyze your products further (for logged in users). (8) Product Recycle options. (9) Complaint form – This can be used to file a complaint in certain conditions (for logged in users). (10) Fill missing details form – This can be used to add details that you believe are lacking from the product description or ingredients list (for logged in users). A successful electronic appliance identification brings you the following options and details: (1) General information such as name, manufacturer and technical details. (2) Manufacturer details. (3) The calculator, which estimates its energy consumption for multiple time frames, such as a month, a year or the length of the products warranty. (4) The product comparator. Inside the Saved products section, a logged in user will find all saved products and a scan log. By selecting a set of saved products, you can review their added values for salt, sugar, additives and calories. Each additive is explained and counted.
