Beet is a garden planner for iPad and iPhone. You draw your beds, place plants from the catalogue and get a sowing and harvest calendar for your location. WHAT THE APP DOES • Set up beds, raised beds, pots and greenhouses in centimetres • Place a plant with one tap, drag it into the grid or paint a whole patch with the brush; matching patches side by side grow together • Tap an empty square and the list starts with what fits there: good companions, nothing from last year’s plant family, suited to the light and the season • Select a plant and its good companions light up blue, the bad ones red • Sowing spots show exactly where each plant goes • Large gardens up to 20 × 20 m, pinch to zoom like a map • Paths, stepping stones, trellises, fleece, netting and partial shade on the grid; the app warns you when something is hard to reach or a trellis is missing • The calendar shows for every plant when to start it indoors, sow, plant out and harvest • This week’s tasks also appear on the squares in your plan; tick one off or push it back and the dates that follow move with it • The shopping list tells you which seeds, young plants and onion sets you need by when • If you like, a notification reminds you on the day of a task YOUR LOCATION Every date is relative to the last frost in spring and the first frost in autumn. When you first open the app, you enter the altitude of your garden, the app suggests the frost dates, and you can adjust both. That way the calendar fits the lowlands just as well as a garden at 1000 metres. THE CATALOGUE 269 plants: vegetables, fruit and berries, herbs, flowers, roses, perennials, bulbs and cover crops, each with spacing, time to harvest, feeding needs, plant family and companions: tomato, sweet pepper, courgette, carrot, beetroot, basil, raspberry, currant, rose, tulip and more. Every plant has its own picture in the style of old seed catalogues. At the top you see what you can sow and plant right now. If a plant is missing, add your own. BEET PRO One bed and everything else are free. Beet Pro is a one-time purchase, no subscription: • as many beds as you like • succession planting: one spot, several harvests a year, with a month view • watering by the weather: which bed needs water when, worked out from rain and warmth, plus frost alerts • plan next year’s garden • crop rotation across the years, with a suggested plan for the new year if you want one • a journal with notes and harvests for each planting • custom plants • iCloud on iPhone and iPad • AR: measure a bed with the camera, lay the plan on the soil, see the sowing spots PRIVACY There is no account and no analytics. Your beds stay on the device and, with Beet Pro, in your own iCloud. The app works without an internet connection. For watering by the weather, your location, rounded to about 10 km, goes to Apple Weather. Privacy: https://beet.bognar.net/en/privacy/

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Stromer OMNI BT at none against Beet's 1. Stromer OMNI BT also leads on iOS requirement (15.6 vs 26.0). Beet's advantage is update cadence (weekly vs every 8 months). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.
