Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Typing Practice at 4.4 against GreatTyping's 3.8. Typing Practice also leads on update cadence (every 4 weeks vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (80 vs 12). GreatTyping's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 9) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Typing Practice sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. GreatTyping asks for nothing beyond the download.
Typing Practice holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Typing Practice has 80 ratings behind it against 12, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 63% of Typing Practice's written reviews are positive against 65% of GreatTyping's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Typing Practice ships an update every 4 weeks, GreatTyping every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
