Verdict
The clearest difference is price: EmbroideryThreads at Free against ThreadBook's $14.99. EmbroideryThreads also leads on update cadence (every 8 days vs monthly). ThreadBook's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 4) and ratings volume (52 vs 5). On rating, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

EmbroideryThreads is free to download; ThreadBook costs $14.99 up front. EmbroideryThreads sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $0.49 per month. ThreadBook asks for nothing beyond the download.
ThreadBook holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ThreadBook has 52 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 66% of ThreadBook's written reviews are positive against 70% of EmbroideryThreads's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
ThreadBook ships an update monthly, EmbroideryThreads every 8 days. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
