Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Fading Note at 5.0 against Document Scanner's 4.5. Fading Note also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 1) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 17.6). Document Scanner's advantage is review sentiment (80% vs 60%) and ratings volume (108 vs 4). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Document Scanner sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Fading Note asks for nothing beyond the download.
Fading Note holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Document Scanner has 108 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of Fading Note's written reviews are positive against 80% of Document Scanner's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Fading Note ships an update weekly, Document Scanner every 10 days. Both last shipped on October 7, 2026.
