Redwings Horse Sanctuary is the largest horse welfare charity in the UK and custodian of Anna Sewell House in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, birthplace of the author of Black Beauty, still the most famous horse in the world and star of one of the most successful novels of all time. It has sparked countless spin offs in TV, film and books, and who could forget the iconic music from the 1970s series? Now you can visit the author’s birthplace and discover not only the history of this incredible novel, but its profound impact on horse welfare in the UK and around the world, sitting as it does within the last 200 years of history. In that time we have both seen huge strides forward in our treatment of animals and yet our horses and other animal companions still face many of the issues Anna wrote about all that time ago. Find out how this beautifully told story of the ‘autobiography of a horse’ impacted and improved standards of horse care around the world and how the work of Redwings continues that legacy to this day. With interactive features and elements documenting the last 200 years of animal welfare history, this is a must for fans of Anna Sewell and supporters of Redwings, not to mention anyone who has ever fallen in love with the wonderful character of the one and only Black Beauty and his friends Merrylegs, Captain, and Ginger of course, for themselves.
