Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: MSR Control at 3.5 against Self's 2.8. MSR Control also leads on ratings volume (53 vs 8). Self's advantage is iOS requirement (11.0 vs 15.0). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

MSR Control holds the better App Store score, 3.5 against 2.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MSR Control has 53 ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 14% of Self's written reviews are positive against 11% of MSR Control's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
