Bornomala teaches Bangla in the order a learner actually picks it up: sounds before letters, listening before reading, and saying something real before being asked to spell it. It was built by a weekend Bengali school for the families in it, where a child very often speaks some Bangla at home and reads none of the script. It starts at the first letter and goes as far as real narrative, so it suits a beginner at any age: the youngest children in the school, the nine- and ten-year-olds who are most of it, and the teenagers coming back to a language they can speak but never learned to read. Everything a learner has to do is said aloud, so nothing waits on reading. THREE VILLAGES স্বরপুর for the vowels, ব্যঞ্জনপুর for the consonants, সংখ্যাপুর for the numbers. All three are open from the first day. Vowels first is the easier road and the app says so, but it is advice, not a locked door. 51 letters and 45 joined letters, each with its own sound, its own example word and its own stroke-by-stroke handwriting practice that grades order and direction, not just the shape. 38 STORYBOOKS Read-along books in three levels, each one voiced word by word, so a child can follow the highlight before they can decode. Tuli and her cat Tultuli appear throughout, and Tultuli is hidden on every page for a child to find and tap. Every book teaches a handful of key words and then checks them, with pictures rather than text, so the check never becomes a reading test by accident. TALKING, NOT JUST READING 27 conversations where the child takes a turn: someone says a line, the child picks the reply and says it. Phrase decks for greetings, family, food and school. A sentence builder that asks the child to put real sentences together from the words they have met. GAMES THAT COUNT সাপ লুডু and লুডু played in Bengali, where every square is counted aloud. দাবা with a beatable opponent. Spellbound, Solitaire and a counting game, all drawing on the same 794 words the rest of the app teaches, so a game is practice rather than a detour. FOR PARENTS WHO DO NOT READ THE SCRIPT Turn on "Sound out Bengali words" and every Bengali word in the app carries its sound in Latin letters, so you can read along with your child from the first day. It stays off by default, because the app is a Bengali app out of the box. Every instruction is bilingual. The Bengali being taught is never subtitled, because subtitling the answer turns a Bengali lesson into an English one. A progress screen shows what a child has actually met, learned and proven, kept apart on purpose: attendance is not the same as knowing. A PIN-gated area holds the detail and the family's settings. BUILT BY A SCHOOL Bornomala comes from BALA, a Bengali school, and is free. No ads, no in-app purchases, no accounts, no sign-up, and nothing a child does leaves the device. It works with the plane in airplane mode: every recording, picture and book is in the app already. Multiple children can share one device, each with their own progress.
