Recording and reporting what is happening to the environment around us is a positive action we can all take in the face of the breathtaking speed of climate change. Bystander records and delivers observations to the organisations that protect and maintain our environment: birds to the RSPB, bumblebees to the BCT; and Japanese Knotweed to the Non-Native Species Secretariat and…… Invasive species enemy #1: The Asian Hornet 2023 has seen a dramatic increase in the number of sightings. 71 Asian hornet nests have been found in 55 locations (National Bee Unit) and so we’ve made the decision to make Bystander free use. In season, it’s a 24/7 job and the NBU needs our help in confirming sightings and nests. The Bystander app captures picture, location, date, time, and vector (direction) providing all the information needed to locate and destroy a nest. • Free app • Reporting without time-consuming phone calls • Available in any language and works anywhere in the world. • Unsoiled with the conjecture and opinions of social media. • Integrated with the BeeWatch Honeybee Swarm Reporting system, to allow the members of the public to alert local beekeepers to swarms for collection.
