Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Train Maker at 4.7 against Tram Machinist's 2.7. Train Maker also leads on ratings volume (870 vs 3). Tram Machinist's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 76%) and update cadence (monthly vs every 3 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Train Maker holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 2.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Train Maker has 870 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 76% of Train Maker's written reviews are positive against 100% of Tram Machinist's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Train Maker ships an update every 3 months, Tram Machinist monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
