Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: ABC at none against Wortschatz's 3. ABC also leads on review sentiment (67% vs 46%) and iOS requirement (12.1 vs 26.0). Wortschatz's advantage is rating (4.8 vs 4.3) and update cadence (every 5 days vs every 17 months). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Wortschatz sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. ABC asks for nothing beyond the download.
Wortschatz holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Wortschatz has 79 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of ABC's written reviews are positive against 46% of Wortschatz's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
ABC ships an update every 17 months, Wortschatz every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
