Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Referee at none against OptiFlight's 3. Referee also leads on update cadence (daily vs every 6 weeks) and rating (5.0 vs 4.6). OptiFlight's advantage is ratings volume (1.3K vs 1) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 26.0). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. OptiFlight sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Referee asks for nothing beyond the download.
Referee holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: OptiFlight has 1.3K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
OptiFlight ships an update every 6 weeks, Referee daily. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
