No game of Commander is complete without Moxtopper on your table. EASY TO USE • Keep track of every player’s life total with tasty text and chonky buttons. • The user interface is designed to be usable from all viewing directions. Just place your iPhone or iPad in the middle of your play surface and you’re good to go. • Multiple-touch support. Your whole play group can use it at the same time. TRACKS COMMANDER DAMAGE • We know that tracking commander damage is a *huge* pain. With Moxtopper, it couldn’t be easier. At any time a player can swipe horizontally on their play area to see how much commander damage they’ve taken from all the other players’ commanders. • Commander damage is tracked per *commander*, so it works great with partner commanders, too! • If you’re using partner commanders, just swipe down on your play area and press the “Partners” button to toggle partner commander mode on or off. GREAT FOR EVERY PLAY GROUP • Moxtopper is optimized to work great not just for 4 player games, but also for any game of 1 to 10 — yes, ten! — players. That means it’s right at home during one-on-one games of Friday Night Magic as well as gigantic Multiplayer Planechase House Rules Banlist Slugfests. • Configurable with a total of 32 possible seating arrangements so that layout of play areas on the screen always comfortably matches the way your play group likes to sit around the table. UPGRADE YOUR EXPERIENCE • Customize each player’s area with awesome digital “playmats”, similarly to how you are probably rolling out full art playmats on your game table in real life. • Comes with five free digital playmats • Additional digital playmats can be unlocked via in-app purchases, including one that lets you import any photo you want from your Photos library. Thanks ahead of time for supporting Moxtopper through these must-have upgrades! • In addition to the playmats, there are bonus themes in fun, readable colors. OTHER COOL FEATURES • STATS-S-S-S-S-S — Keep track of in-game numbers like commander tax, infect, storm, experience, energy, mana pools, and more using the player options menu (swipe down on your player to see these options). • TURN CLOCKS — Turn on Turn Clocks to help folks stay mindful of how long their turns are. Just like chess clocks, they tick down the seconds from your customizable start time. Moxtopper ensures only one player can be active at a time. • AIRPLAY — Stream your game locally via AirPlay to a compatible Apple TV by enabling Screen Mirror and using the app like you normally would. Great for going top-eight at your Local Game Store! • CHARTS — Share and remember your splashiest games with cool charts that show the roller coaster ride of life totals as they change over the course of a game. Requires iOS/iPadOS 16 or later. • HIGH ROLL — Save time by high-rolling to see who plays first with just a single tap. • APP ICONS — Bling out your homescreen with a bunch of alternate app icons. • SCRYFALL — Scryfall search box integrated into the main options menu. • MADE BY A FAN — Moxtopper is made by a fan of the game, just one guy (me, the one writing this, howdy) who really really likes artisanal, hand-made, bespoke, fussy, delightful little apps with big dreams. Seriously I appreciate all the support ya’ll send my way. WHAT IS COMMANDER? Just in case you didn’t already know, in the “Commander” format of Magic: the Gathering, you and your friends battle each other with legendary creatures, huge decks of crazy cards, making splashy plays until there’s only one player left standing.

Play Magic: The Gathering solo. Deep IQ is the second player. You bring the deck and the table. Deep IQ brings the opponent — a virtual adversary that rolls a d10 each turn against its current action table and resolves whatever it lands on: summoning creatures, casting setbacks, growing its board, attacking, and graduating to harder tables as the game goes on. There is no decision-making AI to second-guess; outcomes come straight from the dice and the tables, exactly like the pen-and-paper Deep IQ system that players have hand-rolled since 1996. The app just does the bookkeeping — faithfully, instantly, and without a single missed trigger. REBUILT FOR 2026 This year Deep IQ was rewritten from the ground up: • A clear two-phase turn cycle — watch Deep IQ take its turn, then take yours. The board locks while it's thinking and hands control back when it's your move. • A living board — tokens fly in as Deep IQ summons them and out as they leave, with life totals, counters, and a running turn log you can follow at a glance. • A responsive layout that reshapes itself for phone, tablet, and desktop, with the turn log docked beside the board on larger screens. • Six brand-new color rule sets — mono White, Blue, Black, Red, and Green plus a colorless build — each with its own flavor of opponent. • Multiverse Trial: a tougher, modern rule set with layered mechanics. • A built-in help and reference section that explains every screen and rule set. 14 BUILT-IN RULE SETS Every published Deep IQ variant, faithfully implemented: Rick Moscatello (1996), Bruce Richard (2013), Andy Tuque (2016), Nevan Vermillion (2016), Phill Webb (2017), John Taylor (2022), Wrath of Zorr (2021), the 2026 color suite, and Multiverse Trial. PLAYS YOUR WAY • Pick a rule set, choose Deep IQ's colors, and start a game in seconds. • Adjust life, apply setbacks, and manage the board with a tap. • Settings persist instantly — locale, theme, log position, and more. • Available in 11 languages. DEEP IQ PRO Everything above is free. Deep IQ Pro is a one-time in-app purchase that unlocks the custom rule set editor — build your own action tables from scratch, tune the mechanics, and import or export them as JSON to share with other players. If you have ever wanted to design your own solo opponent, this is the workshop. Bring a deck. Deep IQ brings the fight. Deep IQ is an unofficial fan tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast. Magic: The Gathering is a trademark of Wizards of the Coast LLC.

Verdict
The clearest difference is update cadence: Moxtopper at every 3 months against Deep IQ's every 27 months. Moxtopper also leads on ratings volume (1.1K vs 5). Deep IQ's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and rating (4.8 vs 4.6). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Moxtopper sells 2 one-off in-app purchases and Deep IQ sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Deep IQ holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Moxtopper has 1.1K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 88% of Moxtopper's written reviews are positive against 100% of Deep IQ's.
Moxtopper ships an update every 3 months, Deep IQ every 27 months. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
