Finally, a way to communicate when hearing aids aren't enough. I built SpeakToRead to be able to "talk" with my 95-year-old father. He has dementia and severe hearing loss and won't wear hearing aids. It got to the point where even yelling wasn't working anymore. We were both frustrated. He can still read and speak, so I started typing in a huge font on my iPad. While that did work, it was cumbersome. But it gave me the idea for SpeakToRead. SpeakToRead turns your speech into massive, easy-to-read text instantly. It brings connection back to families, caregivers, and medical professionals. The nurses at my Dad's assisted living center loved it, so I had to share it. WHY IT'S DIFFERENT: Most apps are either too complicated or produce text that is too small. SpeakToRead is designed for eyes that need large print and a simple interface that doesn't get in the way of conversations. 3 WAYS TO USE IT: - Standalone Mode: Use a single device for quick 1-on-1 chats. - Controller Mode: Speak into your iPhone and the text appears instantly on an iPad facing your loved one. Share photos, too! - Display Mode: Turn any iPad into a dedicated "subtitle screen" for your loved one. KEY FEATURES - Huge Text: Sizes up to 200pt (fills the whole screen!). - Simple Controls: Push-to-Talk or Continuous listening. - Photo Sharing: Send family photos from your phone directly to their screen. - No Internet Needed: Works via Bluetooth/WiFi for privacy and speed. PRICING - Free Forever: Basic Standalone mode. - Premium (One-time purchase): Unlocks Controller Mode (connect two devices), Photo Sharing, additional fonts and font sizing. - Free Trial: Try Premium free for 10 days. No subscription!

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Speak to Read at 5.0 against Note Widget +'s 4.4. Speak to Read also leads on ads (none vs shown). Note Widget +'s advantage is ratings volume (438 vs 1) and iOS requirement (15.8 vs 18.0). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Note Widget + sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Speak to Read sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Speak to Read holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Note Widget + has 438 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
