Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: MEDIALEX at none against CrossoverFM's shown. MEDIALEX also leads on monetization model (free vs ad-supported) and ratings volume (7 vs 1). CrossoverFM's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 36 months). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for MEDIALEX against 5.0 for CrossoverFM. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MEDIALEX has 7 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
MEDIALEX ships an update every 36 months, CrossoverFM fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 3, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
