Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: PawShort at 5.0 against MapGenie's 3.8. PawShort also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (weekly vs every 80 months). MapGenie's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and ratings volume (34 vs 1). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MapGenie sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and PawShort sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $10.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
PawShort holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MapGenie has 34 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
MapGenie ships an update every 80 months, PawShort weekly. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and November 4, 2026 respectively.
