Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Mood Tracker at none against Mood's shown. Mood Tracker also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 8 months). Mood's advantage is rating (4.4 vs 4.1) and ratings volume (89 vs 8). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Mood Tracker sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month and Mood sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Mood holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mood has 89 ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 60% and 60% positive.
Mood Tracker ships an update every 2 months, Mood every 8 months. The most recent releases landed on June 10, 2026 and September 21, 2026 respectively.
