Radar Performance vs Upliftic
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
Radar Performance
This application calculates the geometry of aircraft weather radar beams relative to Earth, the freezing level, and the "bright band" for optimal weather detection. It identifies areas on the radar display where the beam is too high or low for effective weather detection and highlights potential ground returns.
- Calculates weather radar beam geometry
- Considers Earth and freezing level
- Identifies optimal detection altitudes
- Shows areas of ineffective beam coverage
- Highlights potential ground returns
- Supports various radar models

Radar Performance calculates the geometry of aircraft weather radar beams with respect to the earth, the freezing level, and the band of altitudes that provide the maximum weather radar returns (the "bright band"). It also shows the areas on the radar display where the beam is too high or low to effectively detect active weather and areas where you may see ground returns. Radar Performance also includes an Overfly mode for confirming that the tops of lower-level convective weather remain safely below your aircraft. You choose a safe clearance altitude and a tactical range, and the app calculates the radar tilt at which the bottom of the beam just reaches that altitude at that range. With this tilt set, any weather returns indicate that the tops have penetrated your safety margin, so going around the weather is advised. Overfly mode is available at aircraft altitudes of 15,000 ft and above, and is inspired by Tom McGrath's "Snowplow" technique. Radar Performance supports a variety of weather radar models as well as a "generic" model. It is not specific to any aircraft type.

Upliftic is a fast, pilot-friendly calculator for planning and presenting aircraft fuel uplift. Enter your Current Fuel on Board (smart tri-field: total/left/right), set Target Fuel (lbs) and Trip Fuel (lbs), and get the Uplift in litres instantly—plus a clear ReFuelEU policy check using your Taxi fuel and density constant. New in 2.0: Upliftic on Apple Watch, with watch-face complications and iPhone sync. Designed for the flight deck, Upliftic keeps inputs simple, typography large, and actions obvious. Show the uplift to the refueler in a single tap using the full-screen number view. Need rounded options? Use the three +50 L quick tabs to display uplifts rounded up (e.g., 2300 L, 2350 L, 2400 L). If you're not compliant, Upliftic also provides a dedicated "Refuel EU compliant uplift" suggestion you can tap to present full-screen. Capture last-minute instructions in the always-visible WhiteBoard and open it full-screen; the text auto-fits to fill the display and stays fully readable—without scrolling—even at larger accessibility text sizes. Upliftic also includes a Wind Components calculator (crosswind/headwind/tailwind) with a simple runway + wind diagram for quick checks on the go. Everything works offline, with values persisted between sessions. Features • Apple Watch app: Digital Crown entry with ±100/±1000 buttons, uplift and ReFuelEU check, rounded-to-50 L refueller options, full-screen presenter. • Watch complications: current uplift on the watch face, or a shortcut to a new calculation. • Departure ICAO (optional): shows whether ReFuelEU applies at your departure airport, from the European Commission's list built into the app. • Trip fuel ceiling: the highest trip fuel that still complies with ReFuelEU. • Smart inputs: "Current Fuel on Board" total field syncs with left/right tanks; edit any field and the others update. • Faster entry (optional): auto-commit and hide the keyboard after your chosen digit count for Current/Target/Trip Fuel. • Target & Trip Fuel (lbs): straightforward fields with validation; Trip Fuel is optional. • Uplift result (L): instant calculation plus quick projections for Target +100/+200 lbs. • ReFuelEU policy check: banner turns green/red when Trip Fuel is set; blue when Trip Fuel = 0; grey when the departure airport is out of scope. • Refuel EU compliant uplift (when needed): additional rounded-to-50 L suggestion shown when not compliant; tap to present full-screen. • Taxi fuel (custom): set any value (lbs) and optionally override it on the main screen (clearly marked as default vs override). • Density constant (custom): default 0.567; editable and persisted. • +50 L quick tabs: three narrow buttons below the result—rounded up to the nearest 50 L, then +50 L and +100 L. • Full-screen presenter: tap a tab to show a giant litre value; auto-fits and rotates with the device. • WhiteBoard: always-visible note area; open full-screen, auto-fit text (no scrolling), readable at any accessibility text size, landscape-optimized; quick "Clear" control in the section header. • Wind Components Calculator: enter wind direction/speed and runway number or magnetic direction; get crosswind and head/tailwind plus a simple diagram; quick reset for wind-only inputs. • Accessibility & persistence: Dynamic Type support throughout, VoiceOver labels, values remembered after app restarts. • Offline by design: no network required. Why pilots like it • Built for speed and legibility on the ramp. • Clear compliance signal when Trip Fuel is provided—plus a ready-to-show compliant uplift when it isn't. • One-tap big-number display for refuelers. • No clutter: Taxi fuel and density constant you control, with quick overrides when needed. • Quick wind component check without leaving the app. Notes Upliftic is a reference aid, not certified avionics. Always verify your figures and follow your company SOPs and aircraft documentation when planning fuel.
