A box score is the most beautiful thing in sports. Nine innings across the top, a column of names down the side, and a whole afternoon compressed into a grid you can read in ten seconds. Bat & Box is every one of them, back to 1897. Pick a date — the day you were born, the game your dad still talks about, last night's ninth inning, and read that day the way the morning paper set it: both lineups, every at-bat, every pitching line, the umpires who worked it, the ballpark, the attendance, the time of game. Every name is a door. Tap a player for that season, tap again for the whole career, year by year. Tap a club for its year, the standings, the roster, every result in order, and October if they got there. No feed. No ads. No account. No notifications. Pick a team and the app wears its colors, and your club's game sits at the top of the day. The type is set for columns of small numbers, because that is what a box score is.

Verdict
The clearest difference is ratings volume: Crossbar Mobile at 32K against Bat & Box's 1. Crossbar Mobile also leads on chart position (#182 vs unranked). Bat & Box's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 6 weeks). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for Crossbar Mobile against 5.0 for Bat & Box. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Crossbar Mobile has 32K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Crossbar Mobile ships an update every 6 weeks, Bat & Box fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 26, 2026 respectively.
