Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Translate at none against Camera's 1. Translate also leads on ratings volume (1.2K vs 6). Camera's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 4 days vs every 6 months). On price, rating, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Camera sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $1.99 per month. Translate asks for nothing beyond the download.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.2 for Translate against 4.3 for Camera. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Translate has 1.2K ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Translate ships an update every 6 months, Camera every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
