Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Photo Math Solver at 74% against SnapMath's 59%. SnapMath's advantage is rating (4.5 vs 4.3) and ratings volume (1.6K vs 255). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. SnapMath sells 15 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and Photo Math Solver sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
SnapMath holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SnapMath has 1.6K ratings behind it against 255, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 59% of SnapMath's written reviews are positive against 74% of Photo Math Solver's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
SnapMath ships an update every 8 days, Photo Math Solver every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.

- It a good math ai but when accessing the camera it freezes. How do I resolve the issue
- Terrible
- Keeps crashing
- It's so manipulative. It told me I needed a credit to scan a math problem, and I could get a credit by watching an ad. After 1 watched one ad, it said I needed to watch 3. Fine. I watched 3. Then 6. Then 7. No word of a lie. Deleting. Don't waste your time. Also the ads are ads for gaming apps. Not helpful for students. 🙄
