Verdict
DuoCards and Flashword both sit at 4.7 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Flashword's written reviews are positive against 63% of DuoCards's. Flashword also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs monthly). DuoCards's advantage is ratings volume (1.5K vs 9) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 26.0). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. DuoCards sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per month and Flashword sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for DuoCards against 4.7 for Flashword. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: DuoCards has 1.5K ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 63% of DuoCards's written reviews are positive against 100% of Flashword's.
DuoCards ships an update monthly, Flashword every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 7, 2026 and November 4, 2026 respectively.
