MathMod allows to plot 3D mathematical surfaces, described by implicit or parametric equations, and offers a very large database of model samples that can be generated with it. Apart from visualizing the actual shape, you are also free to edit the scripts and equations in order to understand how each parameter influences and reshapes the model. Moreover, MathMod can also be used to export to OBJ format and generate animations that showcase how the model morphs as it is given new parameters to work with.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: MathMod at none against Graphing Calculator 84's 4. MathMod also leads on ads (none vs shown) and rating (5.0 vs 4.6). Graphing Calculator 84's advantage is ratings volume (5.1K vs 1) and review sentiment (84% vs 67%). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Graphing Calculator 84 sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. MathMod asks for nothing beyond the download.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

MathMod holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Graphing Calculator 84 has 5.1K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 84% of Graphing Calculator 84's written reviews are positive against 67% of MathMod's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
