Verdict
The clearest difference is ratings volume: Golden Corral at 111K against Carotenos's 94. Golden Corral also leads on chart position (#182 vs unranked). Carotenos's advantage is update cadence (every 8 months vs every 21 months) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.4). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Carotenos holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Golden Corral has 111K ratings behind it against 94, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Carotenos ships an update every 8 months, Golden Corral every 21 months. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
