Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: GoodMaps at none against AR's shown. GoodMaps also leads on rating (4.1 vs 3.7) and update cadence (monthly vs every 12 months). AR's advantage is review sentiment (80% vs 60%). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
GoodMaps holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: GoodMaps has 17 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 80% of AR's written reviews are positive against 60% of GoodMaps's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
AR ships an update every 12 months, GoodMaps monthly. The most recent releases landed on September 26, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
