Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Today at none against Countdown Buddy's 1. Today also leads on iOS requirement (16.0 vs 18.0). Countdown Buddy's advantage is ratings volume (26K vs 2). On price, rating, review sentiment and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Countdown Buddy sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Today asks for nothing beyond the download.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Countdown Buddy against 4.5 for Today. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Countdown Buddy has 26K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 68% of Countdown Buddy's written reviews are positive against 67% of Today's.
