Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Mine Locator Map at 4.6 against Catalytic Converter Database's 3.1. Mine Locator Map also leads on ratings volume (367 vs 20) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). Catalytic Converter Database's advantage is review sentiment (50% vs 13%) and ads (none vs shown). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Catalytic Converter Database sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $24.99 per month and Mine Locator Map sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Mine Locator Map holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mine Locator Map has 367 ratings behind it against 20, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Catalytic Converter Database's written reviews are positive against 13% of Mine Locator Map's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Catalytic Converter Database ships an update every 2 months, Mine Locator Map every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on November 3, 2026.
