4S Camera

4S Camera lets you turn off, one by one, seven kinds of processing that iPhone applies automatically when you shoot. It is not an app for prettier photos, and not a retro filter. Blown highlights and grain stay as the result of cutting. Stock Camera settings cannot turn off Smart HDR and related finishing item by item. This app captures Bayer RAW from the sensor and develops it with those corrections left off. How this differs from stock Camera and editors: It does not weaken processing after a photo is already taken. It does not use Apple ProRAW. It changes the capture path: a single-frame Bayer RAW is developed and saved as JPEG. What you can turn off (set to zero / disabled in development): • HDR-style local tone mapping • Sharpening • Luminance and color noise reduction • Lens distortion correction • Look controls (detail, moiré, highlight recovery) • Extended dynamic range (EDR) • Hand-off to newer RAW decoders (when Auto is off) Saved JPEG is developed without the items you turned off. DNG stays Bayer RAW. What we cannot turn off: • Minimum device preprocessing before RAW • Demosaic, color conversion, and the basic contrast curve needed for JPEG • Disabling all iPhone image processing Note: The live viewfinder and the saved JPEG can differ in brightness and color. That is not a bug — finder and saved development are different pipelines. The saved photo is the result. Requires an iPhone that can capture sensor Bayer RAW. Modes: Simple: pick 4S, 8, or XS. Detail: slider plus the seven switches. Pricing (no subscription): • First 7 days: full access • After that: 4S shooting (all corrections off) stays free (JPEG) • One-time ¥500: Detail, 8/XS, DNG, crop, shooting assist

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: JPG Optimizer at none against 4S Camera's 1. JPG Optimizer also leads on device support (3 vs 1). 4S Camera's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (weekly vs every 3 months). On price and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.
