Owlet vs Cardinal Solitaire Directions

Owlet: Cube6 is an app that uses two Owlet CubeTower manipulatives. This app builds on the Cube3 app by enabling students to create six-digit numbers by stacking small cubes in the columns of two CubeTowers. Cube6 has three modes. Each corresponds to a different topic in place value: Thousands, Money, and Decimals. For each topic, there are five different activities. - Explore: Students place cubes in the CubeTowers to create numbers that are shown on the tablet. - Make: Students are prompted to make a target number by placing cubes in the CubeTowers. - Build: Students solve number puzzles. For example, students might be asked to build a number between 200,000 and 300,000 using 15 cubes. - Compare: Students create a number in the CubeTowers and then compare it to a number generated by the app. - Round: Students use the CubeTowers to round a number to a specified place.

In this game, the objective is to use cardinal directions to help the character bring their item back to their home. As the character moves across the grid in one of the four cardinal directions, North (up), South (down), East (right), or West (left) the character bumps the item moving it in the characters' current direction. What are the Challenges in this game? The main challenge is that items cannot move on their own and can only be nudged. The player needs to use the principle of cardinal directions to maneuver the character while ensuring that items do not get to a point where they cannot be moved further inside the grid. It becomes difficult to analyze the position and movement of an item and character since moves cannot be made diagonally and come in conflict while moving on the same square of the grid. Benefits of Practice through Play The game allows kids to practice the four fundamental directions, including North (up), South (down), East (right), and West (left). Playing the game trains individuals to think spatially as they need to keep track of various directions around the grid. The game enhances analytical skills since the player needs to analyze and determine the next move while taking into account the limitations of movement, including blocked walls and conflicting movements of the character and the item.
