Star Strike is the only app that shows how to find truly amazing night sky pictures: lions, unicorns, eagles; the awesome Star of Stars. With no fancy gizmos, just your eyes and the power of your mind, Star Strike ensures that learning the stars is easy, fun and suitable for all. Having a BBQ with friends? Maybe a hot-tub; camping or enjoying family time? This app brings a starry night alive in a manner not known for years. Imagine looking up and seeing a dolphin leaping over head, a witch on her broomstick or even stinky bear scratching around. Once seen never forgotten! You will have your favourites, for sure, perhaps the Star of Stars or Arthur’s Chariot; the Lion of Ra or maybe the Great Bear itself, rearing up to strike. Whichever it is these realistic pictures personalise the night sky, making the stars fun and easy to learn. The app’s format is beautifully simple: Position yourself using the guide to finding North. From the menu screen select an image that you would like to find. Follow a step-by-step video that guides you through the stars to find the picture. Videos can be paused and re-played until you are satisfied that you have really ‘got the picture’. Once you are confident that you have found it, hit ‘Got it!’ and watch both your personal and the public tally go up. At the end of the video a brief text shows where the picture fits into the worldwide web of mythology.
Vignettes
Read full descriptionHide full description
"Vignettes" is a program whose main objective is to compile images from mestizo sources and offer a description, analysis, and identification of the elements of traditional pictographic writing present in each of them. It also provides direct access to the parallel images of TLACHIA and the TEMOA texts from which they were extracted. This approach highlights the mestizo character of the vignettes, which function as texts for those who created them and as illustrations for those who commissioned them. The aim is to facilitate access to these images and consistently link them to traditional codices. In particular, it aims to demonstrate that these vignettes are heirs to a rich and long pictographic tradition. "Vignettes" includes the 1,824 vignettes of the Florentine Codex, the 120 of the Durán Codex, the 52 of the Tovar Codex, the vignettes of the First Memorials, divided between the Matritense Codex of the Royal Palace (146) and the Matritense Codex of the Royal Academy (122), the 92 vignettes of the Cruz-Badiano Codex as well as the 765 images of Francisco Hernández. That is, a total of 3,115 images that have a close relationship with the Nahuatl language.
