Both are free to download. NFC Reader & Writer sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. PassKit PassReader asks for nothing beyond the download.
NFC Reader & Writer holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 1.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: NFC Reader & Writer has 106 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 13% of NFC Reader & Writer's written reviews are positive against 33% of PassKit PassReader's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
NFC Reader & Writer ships an update fortnightly, PassKit PassReader every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
