About

Sunsets by Ambleway

Features

Sunsets tells you whether tonight's sky is worth going outside for, and exactly when to be standing where. Open it and the whole screen is this evening, painted in the colors it is actually going to be. Above that, a score out of five and a plain answer: gray dusk, modest glow, worth a window seat, worth a hilltop, or cancel dinner. WHAT MAKES A SKY The score comes from the things that really decide it — how high the cloud deck sits, whether the west is open enough for light to get underneath it, and how clean the air is. Most evenings are one or two stars, and Sunsets says so plainly. That is what makes a five worth clearing the evening for. THE RUN OF SHOW Sunset is not the moment. Sunsets gives you the whole sequence, minute by minute: when to be in position, when the first color arrives in the west, when it peaks red over your head, when the color drains back to the horizon, and when you will want a headlamp. SIX EVENINGS AHEAD Tap any day and the screen becomes that evening — its own sky, its own score, its own schedule. Decide on Tuesday which night this week is the one. SOMEWHERE THAT SEES IT Pull up from the bottom for short walks to a sunset perch near you, from Ambleway's trail catalogue. Each one carries the time to be standing there, how far and how much climb, how long back to the car, and whether the return needs a headlamp. Every walk is scored for how far it stays from roads and houses, and checked for a sight line from the perch back to where you parked — so you can leave the car and still see it. A QUIET ALERT Ask to be told, and Sunsets sends one notification about 90 minutes before sunset — only on evenings that beat the score you chose. Quiet weeks are the point. Free. No account. No ads. Sunset hikes are available where Ambleway's trail catalogue has been built; the forecast works anywhere. See ambleway.com/coverage.

Solstice's advantage is chart position (#172 vs unranked) and device support (5 vs 2). On price and ads there is nothing between them.
