Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Reading Diary at 5.0 against Retail Ready Social's 4.3. Reading Diary also leads on device support (3 vs 1). Retail Ready Social's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months). On price, ads and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Reading Diary sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Retail Ready Social asks for nothing beyond the download.
Reading Diary holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Retail Ready Social has 8 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Retail Ready Social's written reviews are positive against 80% of Reading Diary's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Retail Ready Social ships an update fortnightly, Reading Diary every 2 months. Both last shipped on October 29, 2026.
