You already keep a restaurant diary. It's in your camera roll — you just never wrote it down. Dined reads the location and date from the photos you've already taken, works out which restaurant you were at, and builds the journal for you. No check-ins, no tagging, no remembering to open an app at the table. Point it at the last three months and watch the places come back. YOUR PHOTOS NEVER LEAVE YOUR PHONE Dined reads photo metadata and recognises food on-device using Apple's built-in image intelligence. Only the approximate location of a group of photos is sent to look up the restaurant. The pictures themselves stay exactly where they are. A JOURNAL, NOT A FEED • Every place you've eaten, newest first, with the photos you took there • Repeat visits stack under the same restaurant as a timeline • A one-line note per place: what to order, who you were with, what to skip • Search by name, or browse on a satellite map that clusters as you zoom out RATE THE WAY YOU ACTUALLY THINK No stars out of five. Four honest verdicts — Wouldn't go back, Meh, Worth going, Exceptional — and a Top 5 for every cuisine. When a new favourite arrives and the podium is full, you decide who leaves. SHARE WHAT'S WORTH SHARING "Hey Siri, share my top Italian in Boston from Dined." Pick a city, pick a cuisine, and send a shortlist with photos and your notes — straight to whoever asked. A LITTLE MAGE WHO EATS WITH YOU Every restaurant you log feeds her. She starts as a hatchling and grows — comfier, rounder, sleepier — as your journal does. Log nothing for a fortnight and she gets hungry. STATS FOR THE CURIOUS Streaks, cuisines by count, your most-visited spots, and a clean browse of everything you've ever rated. FREE Dined is free. Your first 20 restaurants need no account; sign in with Apple and it's 50, plus automatic cloud backup of your journal so a new phone picks up where the old one left off. There is nothing to buy in the app. Dined needs access to your photo library to work, and only makes sense for photos that carry location data (the default on iPhone). Restaurant lookup uses Google Places.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Dined at 5.0 against Sharebite Stations's 4.2. Dined also leads on update cadence (every 6 days vs monthly). Sharebite Stations's advantage is ratings volume (47 vs 2) and iOS requirement (15.1 vs 26.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Dined holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Sharebite Stations has 47 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Sharebite Stations ships an update monthly, Dined every 6 days. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
