Verdict
The clearest difference is ratings volume: Video Compressor at 281 against On This Day's 1. Video Compressor also leads on iOS requirement (15.6 vs 18.0). On This Day's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.7). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Video Compressor sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and On This Day sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
