Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Typing Practice at 5.0 against Text or Die's 4.5. Typing Practice also leads on ads (none vs shown). Text or Die's advantage is ratings volume (212K vs 5) and update cadence (weekly vs monthly). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Text or Die sells 10 one-off in-app purchases and Typing Practice sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Typing Practice holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Text or Die has 212K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Text or Die ships an update weekly, Typing Practice monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
