Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Mood Tracker at 3.5 against Journalio's 2.7. Mood Tracker also leads on review sentiment (50% vs 25%) and ratings volume (20 vs 3). Journalio's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (weekly vs every 2 months). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Mood Tracker sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and Journalio sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Mood Tracker holds the better App Store score, 3.5 against 2.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mood Tracker has 20 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 50% of Mood Tracker's written reviews are positive against 25% of Journalio's.
Mood Tracker ships an update every 2 months, Journalio weekly. Both last shipped on November 3, 2026.
