Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: The90 Gem at none against Embr Wave 2's shown. The90 Gem also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). Embr Wave 2's advantage is rating (4.8 vs 4.3) and ratings volume (4K vs 9). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Embr Wave 2 holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Embr Wave 2 has 4K ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 72% of Embr Wave 2's written reviews are positive against 86% of The90 Gem's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Embr Wave 2 ships an update every 2 months, The90 Gem every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
