HistoLogic is a free study resource for people trying to learn tissue microscopy. It was designed for students in graduate medical education programs. Users of the app gain access to hundreds of high-quality images and helpful descriptions of the important cells, tissues, and structures in multiple organ systems created by faculty at University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria. Explore mode allows students to learn about cells in different organs and their functions in the body. Toggle between low and high magnification images of each organ. Specialized cells are clearly highlighted, and the underlying text describes their appearance and role. The app also contains Time Trial mode with multiple choice questions at escalating difficulty levels. There are over 350 different questions to test your knowledge across multiple organ systems. The Time Trial questions challenge you to beat your old score with each login. The question order is randomized with each gaming session, and the app adapts to your previous play through. True histology pros can test their skill in Hot Streak mode. This mode forces you to answer all 90 questions for an organ system in a single sitting. One wrong answer boots you back to the beginning and resets the question order. Can you make it all the way to the end? Features: • View hundreds of histology images across multiple organ systems. • Toggle between high quality images at low and high-power magnification. • View hand-drawn outlines for important cells, tissues, and structures. • Examine organs and learn their important histological features with Explore mode. • Review histology questions in Time Trial mode with three difficulty settings. • Strain your brain to answer all 90 questions per organ system in a single run of Hot Streak. • Enjoy endless replays as questions order is randomized for each session. • Detailed rationale for each question is clearly described in case you answer incorrectly. • Randomization adapts to your scores; previously missed items are prioritized in later game sessions. • Additional organ systems to come.

About

Embryonic Virtual Heart

Features

This application is designed to provide a user-friendly way for students of cardiac embryology to interact with a 3D virtual embryonic heart. The application is a free, educational learning module that addresses the complexity of heart formation. The user will begin with an instructional video informing them how to use the application. They will then progress through a series of scenes that will facilitate their learning. The user will begin with a brief overview of heart anatomy, then they will be able to interact with the embryonic heart models. There are five heart models. The first allows the user to learn about normal embryonic development focused on the conotruncal septation event. The next four models address issues that arise when the conotruncal septation event goes awry, resulting in four congenital cardiac defects. The defects discussed in this application are Tetrology of Fallot, Transposition of the Great Vessels, Membranous Interventricular Septum Defects, and Truncus Arteriosus. Learning objectives are also included. *Disclaimer: This application is intended purely for educational purposes and should not be used for any clinical diagnoses, treatments, or any other medical or healthcare related purposes.* The educational content of this application has been reviewed and approved by Dr. Lisa Lee, PhD, Associate Professor at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine, Department of Cell and Developmental Biology.
