Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Chronicling at 4.8 against Timestamp Marker's 4.0. Chronicling also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 6 weeks) and ratings volume (186 vs 1). Timestamp Marker's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3) and review sentiment (100% vs 79%). On price, ads and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Chronicling holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chronicling has 186 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Timestamp Marker's written reviews are positive against 79% of Chronicling's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Timestamp Marker ships an update every 6 weeks, Chronicling weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
